When using the cTrader trading platform for automated trading, most trading robots provide a settings file that you can load into the cBot that updates all the parameters to provide good backtest results for the symbol you wish to trade.
Why Update Parameter Settings?
When you first start using a cTrader cBot for automated trading you will notice that there are parameter settings for each symbol instance, these settings will be different for different symbols for many reasons like behaviour and the spread. You cannot simply add a cBot instance or attach a symbol to the cBot and expect it to work, you as the trader need to find suitable parameter settings for the current market conditions.
An example of these settings is shown above for the DiNapoli Stochastic indicator, these settings will not be the same for all traded symbols, these settings are perfect for data fitting as it shows the highest probability for when the trend changes direction.
How to Load Parameter Settings
All of the automated trading robots that we offer on our website should include an example settings file to help you get started, these files contain optimized settings for the symbol specified on the filename, you need to load these settings to your cBot instance.
How to Backtest The Settings
Once you have loaded your optimised settings into your cBot you will need to test that the historical backtest results shown on our product pages match the results to get when you run the backtest, to do this you need to do the following:
- Set the same broker.
- Set the same backtest start and end date as shown on the product page.
- Set the same data option.
- set the same commission and spread values.
If you need more information on backtesting just follow the tutorial below.
Why are My Results Different?
If you have loaded one of our cbotset parameter settings files into your ClickAlgo trading robot and you are not getting the same results as we are showing on the product page, it will be because of one of the following problems.
- Not using the cBot parameter settings provided in the download.
- Not using the same start and end dates for the backtest.
- Not using the same starting capital.
- Not using the same spread value.
- Not using the same broker.
