Analyse NinjaTrader Strategy Analyzer Results with Xen AI

NinjaTrader Strategy Analyser can tell you whether a strategy made or lost money in a backtest, but the headline figures rarely tell the full story. A strategy can show a positive net profit and a reasonable profit factor while still relying on a handful of unusually large winners, unrealistic execution costs or weak performance on one side of the market. That is why reviewing the underlying Strategy Analyser data matters.

Xen AI for NinjaTrader includes a feature for analysing exported Strategy Analyser results. You can upload the Summary report and optionally include the Trades report for a more detailed review.

    What Xen Looks For

The analysis goes beyond simply repeating the figures already shown in NinjaTrader. Xen reviews areas such as net profit, profit factor, drawdown, win rate, average winning and losing trades, losing streaks, recovery periods and long-versus-short performance. When the Trades report is included, it can also look for signs that the strategy depends heavily on a small number of trades, unusual holding periods or other trade-level behaviour that deserves further investigation.

In one example analysis, the strategy was profitable overall, but most of the result came from a small number of unusually large winning trades. The report also highlighted that commissions, fees and slippage were set to zero, which could materially change the outcome once realistic trading costs were included.

From Backtest Results to Further Testing

The report's purpose is not to decide whether a strategy is good or bad. It is to help identify what to test next.

Depending on the results, Xen may suggest further work such as:

    • Testing realistic commission and slippage assumptions
    • Running out-of-sample tests
    • Comparing long and short performance separately
    • Removing the largest winning trades to test winner dependence
    • Running walk-forward or rolling tests
    • Checking performance across different instruments and market conditions
    • Reviewing unusual trade-duration or session behaviour

This can make Strategy Analyser results much easier to interpret, especially when the backtest contains hundreds of trades.

    How It Works

Run your backtest in NinjaTrader Strategy Analyser, export the Summary report and optionally export the Trades report. Upload the files into Xen AI for NinjaTrader and request an analysis. Xen then produces a structured report covering performance, risk, trade behaviour, weaknesses and recommended next tests. You still need to validate the strategy yourself, but the report can help identify problems that are easy to miss when looking only at the standard Strategy Analyser statistics.
